´╗┐Alchemist Theatre Anavar Cycle Length delivers intense take on David Mamet's 'Oleanna'

David Mamet's "Oleanna," in which a student accuses her professor of harassment and then rape, debuted in the immediate aftermath of the Anita Hill/Clarence Thomas hearings, forever coloring how this play is understood.

But Mamet has noted that he began writing "Oleanna" before those hearings began; he also has claimed it's not really about sexual harassment, but rather a tragedy about language and power. In her promising directorial debut, Erin Eggers gets that and then some, resulting in a gripping production of "Oleanna" at Alchemist Theatre.

As the play begins, Carol is sitting in the office of John, her professor. She is flunking his class, and we quickly learn why: Dogged and literal, she is bewildered and lost amid the squishy and vacuous academic Anadrol Vs Tren Side Effects jargon that John uses. Having diligently read the assigned books including John's own Carol can't understand what's gone wrong, leaving her insecure and consequently resentful.

John adds fuel to the fire when he inadvertently reveals insecurities of his own.

He, too, is struggling with a language he doesn't understand: the legal mumbo jumbo in the real estate contract for the home he "Anadrol 50" wants to purchase, which we learn about through periodic phone conversations with his wife and lawyer. And John also has hang ups with academia, revealed as he worries about tenure and wrestles with his own sense of intellectual inferiority.

A toxic brew involving two people who are so wrapped up in their own neuroses and so intent on their own agendas that neither one can hear Bio Primo Methenolone Enanthate what the other "Anadrol 50" is saying. Both are angry at the system. Both feel like victims. And each, therefore, directs barely understood, inarticulate rage toward the other, in Buy Jintropin an effort to feel more powerful.

As John, regular Acacia Theatre standout David Sapiro continually falls into professor mode. Full of himself. Talking rather than listening. Using big words where little ones would do. Pompously patronizing and pontificating. But for all that, also "Oxandrolone Powder India" nervous. Clearly uncomfortable. Desperately wanting to crawl out of his skin. And, like so many Mamet characters, without the emotional or linguistic tools that would let him do so.

Eggers made the daring decision to cast a man Ben Hgh Jintropin Avis Parman as a transgendered version of Carol. Mamet's script provides support for this; Carol refers to herself at one point as "of some doubtful sexuality" and as having overcome sexual "prejudices" and "humiliations."

All of which explains why Carol might view John's clumsy and paternalistic efforts to help her through gendered glasses. Parman himself takes care of the rest, embodying a Carol whose very body language stiff, angular and uncomfortable reflects Carol's fear and fury at an outside world she views as an implacable enemy. Even before John sinks himself, he stands little chance with her.

But as this duo flails through Mamet's fractured and overlapping dialogue excellently handled by both actors in this fast paced production it's increasingly clear that for all which seemingly divides them, they're both caught in the same hopelessly tangled web, one that binds them together even as it tears them apart.
